Best Donut Joint Ever!

Okay, first of all, apologies for the lack of posting lately, and really this particular post might not be what Nancyland foodies are looking for, but there's some food porn on it's way soon, I promise. But in the meantime, I just wanted to say that I went to the coolest donut store ever last week - the Duffin's Donuts on 41st and Knight. That place has an amazing number of food options for a donut store. It has great cheap torta subs (Mexican sandwiches), pho (Vietnamese noodle soup), bahn mi (Vietnamese sandwiches), an array of fast food type Chinese food, AND donuts. And the place is open 24 hours! I had a bbq beef torta, that had a beef steak drenched in barbecue sauce, on a wonderful roll, with avocado and onion in it, along with lettuce and tomato (I think), and it was a whopping $3.50. I loved it. That was a good sandwich. I also had this incredibly sugary "buttermilk" donut (85 cents) that is quartered and stuffed with (in my case) custard cream. Yah, I gobbled that thing up, but I had to do it in two sittings. All fast food places should be like this place. There is a smaller Duffins on Main St. too. Please do not confuse this with "Nuffy's" and their nuppets. Possibly the worse donut store I ever went to, back when there was one at the westerly end of Robson St. That place was 24 hours, and I swear they had 3 nuppets and a donut there one night at about 9 pm. "When are you getting more donuts?" "Oh, probably not until the morning." But...you're a DONUT STORE, I almost said. Okay, I admit it, the real reason I like telling that story is because I like saying the word "nuppets." Can you blame me?

i love duffins! their torta subs are cheap and delicious and their donuts are the best in the city. sadly, their main street location isn't 24 hours! sigh....but i'm glad to know there is another location (i had no idea about the one on knight!)

Well, I LOVE Krispy Kremes. In fact I was down in Burlington couple weeks ago and brought back two dozen (to share, of course....).

But back in Canada, Timmy's is still decent and pretty much accessible everywhere (although I loathe their molasses-like service). Duffins on Main is mediocre, donuts seem a bit stale and the place is filthy. Just read about the Knight/41st location from Chowtimes and now with Nancy's review I gotta go there !

BTW, Lee's Donuts on Granville Island is AOK too.

Oh, what a funny coincidence. I had no idea about the Chowtimes article. Just happened to drive past Duffins at a good time, and have been meaning to try their torta's for a while. I love Krispy Kreme's too, having lived in the states and got thoroughly hooked on them (would always stop if I ever drove past the "hot now!" sign when it was lit up), but I really don't think they're worthwhile unless you eat them straight off the conveyer. Rather have a cold Timmy's than a cold Krispy Kreme.

Alright, so I'm coming home from IKEA last night when I suddenly realized that I'm ALREADY on Knight and up ahead on 41st is Duffin's. Have to pay the obligatory visit .....

Mmmmmm the donuts are fantastic. Fresh, cheap and large. I especially love powdered donuts with fillings so into the box goes Boston Cream, Lemon, Raspberry, Blueberry, Banana. Oh and a few chocolate peanuts and chocolate coconuts to round out the dozen. Excellent (and way better than the Main St offerings).

Place was filled with people, so the atmosphere was boisterous. OK, I just found my latest favorite donut shop in Vancouver. Thanks Nancy.

A donut shop that also sells mexican and vietnamese food? You Vancouverites are lucky!

As we are all consumers who also like value for their money, I highly suggest that you read about my negative personal experience at Duffins Donuts.
