This is simply a journal of my food adventures, mainly in Vancouver, BC. Basically, a place for me to live out my long-time fantasy of being a restaurant reviewer. I hope that readers will find the reviews useful. I will include random bits about other foodie adventures like grocery and cookware shopping, cooking/baking projects, cooking classes, and eventually I’ll add a cartoon – The Adventures of Ha Gow, my little Chinese dim sum shrimp-filled dumpling dude. Foodies of the city, unite!

It's So Hot Out...
...I had to go get me some barbecue. Having lived in Georgia for a while, I've got this association between sweltering heat and eating pulled pork. Satisfied it with the Memphis Feast ($32.95) from the Memphis Blues on Commercial Drive, which includes a generous helping of every meat (not the catfish) and side dish they offer. Usually the pulled pork is hands-down my favourite, but this time, I have to say I really enjoyed their sliced brisket. Some other hot night, I'd like to try making some chilled soups as that is an area I definitely haven't explored much in my own kitchen. So what do you like to eat when it's hot?

I have to say that I find exactly the same thing (wrt the bit about the BBQing in hot weather).
Then again, when I lived out east, I just 'had' to go and BBQ everytime there was a blizzard also...
Mmmm, pulled pork and brisket .....
And I gotta have their cornbread too.
For me, hot weather and fried chicken seems to go together. Funny I totally love Southern cooking yet I've never been east of Houston.
Others include KEBABS (Middle Eastern style or Asian satay style), COLESLAW (vinegary kind) and a cold Chinese dessert my mom makes called "hung yen dao fu" (ALMOND-FLAVOURED COLD TOFU), which is not even tofu at all but pectin'd almond milk mix, cut into small cubes. She adds Dole or Del Monte canned fruit cocktail into the "tofu" and would serve it at the end of summer picnics.
BTW, you can buy actual almond-flavoured tofu in the supermarket that are locally made by Sunrise. I like them a lot but can seem a bit too sweet at times.
Mmmm, getting hungry already.
Vancouverfoodie, that made me laugh! Right on! You can never get enough 'que. Thanks, SaabKen for your hot weather foods too!
